They are however put on over the head as fully button through shirts did not appear until the early C20th. These shirts were customarily worn with separate stiff collars so the neckbands are made with the appropriate buttonholes front and back. Do keep in mind it is usual to add in to the neckband collar size so a 15. 5in shirt would need a 16in collar. Single cuff.
